Tilt Mount

Perfect for above-fireplace installations. Angles downward to reduce neck strain and eliminates glare from windows. Most versatile choice for Boston homes.

How to Choose the Right TV Mount

1. Consider Your Room Layout

The shape of your room determines your mount choice. Rectangular rooms with one main seating area work best with fixed or tilt mounts. Open concept spaces with multiple seating areas need full motion mounts to angle the TV toward different zones. Corner installations almost always require full motion mounts to position the TV properly.

In Boston's newer luxury buildings, open floor plans are common. We often recommend full motion mounts for Seaport and Downtown condos where the living room flows into the kitchen and dining area.

2. Account for Window Placement

Boston's brownstones and row houses have large windows. If your TV wall faces windows, you'll deal with glare during certain times of day. Tilt mounts solve this by angling the screen downward slightly. Full motion mounts let you pull the TV away from the wall and angle it away from light sources.

Fixed mounts offer no glare adjustment. If you choose fixed, invest in blackout shades or accept that you'll have glare during afternoon hours in east-facing rooms.

3. Measure Your Viewing Distance

The distance from your seating to the TV affects mount choice. Close viewing (6-8 feet) works with any mount type. Far viewing (12+ feet) benefits from full motion mounts that extend the TV into the room, making the screen appear larger and easier to see.

In Boston's compact apartments, you're usually close enough for any mount. But in South Shore homes with larger living rooms, full motion mounts make a real difference.

Mount Type by Common Scenarios

Above the Fireplace

TILT MOUNT

Fireplaces place TVs too high for comfortable viewing. A tilt mount angles the screen downward 10-15 degrees, reducing neck strain and improving picture quality. See our mantle mount guide for fireplace-specific installation tips.

Corner of Room

FULL MOTION

Corner mounting requires pulling the TV away from both walls and angling it toward the seating area. Only full motion mounts provide this range of movement. We specialize in corner TV installations for Boston's unique room layouts.

Standard Living Room Wall

FIXED MOUNT

Eye-level mounting on a standard wall is the ideal scenario for fixed mounts. Cleanest aesthetic, lowest profile, and most affordable option. Perfect for Back Bay and Cambridge apartments with straightforward layouts.

Bedroom with Windows

TILT MOUNT

Bedrooms often have windows opposite or adjacent to the TV wall. Tilt mounts let you angle the screen away from morning or afternoon light. Also helps when watching from bed at a slightly upward angle.

Important: Check VESA Compatibility

Before buying any mount, check your TV's VESA pattern—the distance between mounting holes on the back of your TV (measured in millimeters). Common patterns include:

200x200
400x400
600x400
800x400

Your mount must match or exceed your TV's VESA pattern. Wrong size? We bring adapters. Our TV buying guide explains how to find your VESA specs.
